Biography
Dancer, creator, actress and teacher, Janet Novás has resided in Barcelona since 2020 where she was selected as a resident artist for two years at El Graner Fábrica de Creació with her latest production Proto (SN1806). In 2007 she began to create and develop her own solo projects. Her work is constructed from observation, experience and dialogue with her body as the principle tool, opting for a personal language, and molding the emotional content and aesthetic simplicity that characterises her pieces.
She has received several awards, including the “Goya for Best New Actress” (2024) for the film ‘O Corno’ by Jaione Camborda, the ‘El Ojo Crítico de Danza’ in 2021 by RNE (the Spanish National Radio), the Catalan Critics Award for the best dancer, for the piece ‘Mercedes mais eu’ (2021) and the InJuve Award (2011) with her creation ‘Cara Pintada’.
Her creations have been presented at prestigious national and international festivals such as the Rencontres chorégraphiques internationales de Seine-Saint-Denis, Festival de Marseille, FESTIVAL EXTRAPOLE – Pole-sud, Cement Festival, the FIDCU in Montevideo, TNT Festival, Festival de Otoño in Madrid and the Bad Festival among others. Janet Novás combines her work as a dancer, creator and actress with teaching classes and workshops in different centres in Spain, Europe, Latin America and Asia.
