Springback holds hands with Norrlandsoperan’s Re-Think initiative

31 August 2021

A Springback team of 16 writers is partnering with the Re-Think project in Umeå (SE), an initiative of Norrlandsoperan with the support of the Swedish Institute. Re-Think aims to amplify the debate on sustainability, mobility and access in dance and performing arts. This initiative is developing in different stages and formats: a thinktank led by artists, a festival and a multimedia platform.

The Springback team will cover the Re-Think festival live and online from 3–5 September 2021 and help create the content for the multimedia platform.

Changing minds, changing means: Re-Think envisions dance futures

The Re-Think Incubator for ideas was held during the pandemic to reflect on the the future of contemporary dance in the context of Covid and of the environmental crisis. Coordinated by Birgit Berndt, Norrlandsoperan Artistic Director of Dance, and Project Facilitator Marie Proffit, this thinktank has been led by a group of 10 artists from 5 countries: Alma Söderberg (SE), Nina Kov (HU), Ingrid Mugalu (SE), Marit Shirin Carolasdotter (SE), Linda Hayford (FR), Olga Tsvetkova (RU), Sindri Runudde (SE), Smaïl Kanouté (FR), André Uerba (PT) and Yared Tilahun Cederlund (SE).

The Re-Think festival programme stems to a great extent from the think tank. It also provides the artists with the opportunity to play with and test artistic formats with an audience as well as share practices and reflections around sustainability, digital, mobility and accessibility.

From memory labs and explorations to the art of protest, from the story of a slave who became a samurai to how we can use blockchains in the cultural field, the Re-Think festival programme invites you to ask: how can we take care of each other and investigate future scenarios together?

From 3–5 September 2021 you can explore online Re-Think performances, talks and workshops. Find out more about the programme and register here.

In addition to the festival coverage, the Springback team is also collaborating with the Re-Think project in creating content for a Re-think multimedia platform which will weave traces around the artists’ projects and continue the debate.
