Springback and On Record guest at La Biennale de Lyon
11 September 2025The FORUM, the new, experimental, discursive public programme of la Biennale de la danse de Lyon, will host the Springback Assembly and On Record.
Springback Assembly brings together a group of international writers, and On Record, is a growing collection of “albums” that register voices, stories and reflections from dance festivals and platforms. The writers and the On Record team will attend the Forum from the 17th until the 21st of September.
The FORUM is the Biennale de la danse de Lyon’s new experimental, discursive public programme, aiming to pioneer alternative spaces for dialogue of new knowledge that shape dance ecosystems beyond European borders. Devised through a collaborative process bringing together artists and curators from five regions of the world, the FORUM reflects the ambition of the Biennale to lead and innovate new discursive avenues of choreographic thought, thus enabling an understanding of the world through dance. Each curator has been invited to choose an artist from their respective geographical region whose work and commitment are strongly connected to and reflective of the local environment.
Hosted by prominent European dance festivals and events, SPRINGBACK ASSEMBLY brings together a core group of international writers who have completed the Springback Academy critical writing programme and are now correspondents for Springback Magazine. In collaboration with the host organisation, each Assembly attempts to encompass local cultural and socio/political contexts as well as art. The writers reflect on topics that either they themselves decide, or that emerge throughout the course of the festival. Inspired by the FORUM, the overarching theme of this Assembly will be Hospitality — not only as an act of welcome, but as a critical, artistic and political gesture.
