Moving Borders International Workshop Meeting in Prague

4 June 2024

After the kick off meeting at La Briqueterie CDCN in Vitry sur Seine (FR) in January, Tanec Praha is hosting a Moving Borders Meeting in Prague (CZ), which will take place from 17 – 19 June 2024.

‘Moving Borders – dance approaches from the new Ukrainian artistic diaspora across Europe’, is a project led by Aerowaves which brings together the museum Arte Sella (IT), La Briqueterie CDCN (FR) and Tanec Praha (CZ), and is supported by the Creative Europe programme of the EU. Through this cooperation project we are exploring how three female dance artists from Ukraine – and the migration of millions of women and children escaping from the Russian occupation of their country – are informing approaches to welcoming and engaging refugees through dance, and in the development of inclusive and cohesive practices across Europe.

The meeting in Prague, takes place during the International Dance Festival TANEC PRAHA, and will combine workshops where participants share their practices working in foreign contexts and engaging people (non-professionals of all ages) with dance. The encounter is devised by Yana Reutova, one of the three Ukrainian dance artists involved in the project, who has been living and working in Prague for 2 years. Discussions will be facilitated by the dance dramaturg Monica Gillette. Tanec Praha, the host partner of the meeting, has invited 10 female Ukrainian dance artists now based in the Czechia, Poland and Germany (with one who will come from Ukraine), they are: Diana Durnieva, Antonina Kaminska, Daria Koval, Vita Vaskiv, Yuliia Chubareva, Olena Polianska, Tetiana Znamerovska, Yulia Grishina, Nastya Pavlovska and Nika Horiacha.

They will join the rest of the Moving Borders team formed by:

Ukrainian dance artists; Yana Reutova (based in Prague, Czechia), Anna Kushnirenko (based in Bassano del Grappa, Italy) and Rita Lira (based in Paris, France),

Researchers: Monica Gillette – dramaturg, Luisella Carnelli – impact researcher, Karina Buckley – dance writer

Partners: Yvona Kreuzmannova (Tanec Praha Festival, Czech Republic), Giacomo Bianchi and Rosa Zambelli ( Arte Sella, Italy), Elisabetta Bisaro and Arina Dolgikh (La Briqueterie CDCN, France) and Roberto Casarotto, Morgan Steele, Clàudia Brufau (Aerowaves).
