Markéta Stránská (1979) is a choreographer, performer and physiotherapist based in Hradec Králové (CZ). She was inspired by dance since her childhood. Markéta collaborates mainly with the DNO Theatre, a well-known local theatre in Hradec Králové (CZ), and for two years she has been a member of a non-profit organisation Clown Doctor, which helps to bring joy and humour to a healthcare resort.
Since 2012 she has been an active member of the Czech contemporary dance scene, participating regularly in contemporary dance lessons and workshops and also performing.
In 2015 she cooperated with VerTeDance Company (CZ) in the project “Absent” (Chybění) choreographed by Jaro Viňarský. In the season 2016/2017 she volunteered for the “Audience Jury” as part of the European project Be Spectative during the Czech Dance Platform.
She developed part of her solo FLY! in a residency at the Centre for Choreographic Development SE.S.TA. in Prague (CZ), with the coach Jean Gaudin. In summer 2018 she participated in FILLIMIT, an international platform for young choreographers, during Korespondance festival in Žďár and Sázavou (CZ), and she also took part in Candoco Dance Company’s International Summer Lab in London (UK).
In September 2018, she premiered her choreographic debut, FLY!, at Studio ALTA, which has also been presented in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Russia, France, Germany and Hungary. Markéta is currently working on a new project in collaboration with the French choreographer, dancer, teacher and filmmaker Jean Gaudin. Thanks to her solo, and inspired by projects developed in the United Kingdom and Germany, she keeps cultivating both a local and an international network of disabled artists.
