Biography
After completing his training as a contemporary dancer at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon, David Zagari collaborated with various international companies, including Thierry Smits (BE), Ballet de St. Gallen (CH), Jorge Garcia (BR), DA MOTUS! (CH), Gisella Rocha (CH), Willy Dorner (AU), Jemima Hoadley (UK), Rahu LaMo / Géraldine Chollet (CH), Pierre Rigal (FR), Philippe Saire (CH).
In 2008, he began collaborating in the field of performance art, notably with Annie Vigier and Franck Apertet. He also started creating projects with video artist and performer Alessandra Coppola under the research theme “Gender Matters & Physical Exhaustion”, presenting their work in Brazil, Italy, Holland, Belgium.
His growing interest in performance art led him to pursue a post-master’s degree in performing arts at a.pass in Antwerp in 2011, followed by a master’s degree in Urban Space, which he completed in June 2014 at ENSAV La Cambre in Brussels. During this period, he created several participatory performances and installations for events such as the Trouble Festival and the Grand Banquet at Halles de Schaerbeek, Signal Urban Interventions in Brussels, Crash Test at Brass in Brussels, and the Lust for Life Festival in Forest.
In autumn 2020, David Zagari discovered pole dance. A year later, he earned a bronze medal in a competition. In March 2024, he premiered his solo ‘Le Piquet’ at Théâtre Sévelin 36 in Lausanne, marking the first chapter of a series inviting visual artists to collaborate.
Currently, he is working with choreographers Géraldine Chollet and Marie-Caroline Hominal on their upcoming projects. David Zagari is an associate artist at Théâtre Sévelin 36.
