Biography
HUMANHOOD is a dance company with a vision to unleash human potential. Based in both Birmingham and Barcelona, HUMANHOOD produces unique work that fuses Modern Physics and Eastern Mysticism with the company’s original fluid movement language. Under the co-Artistic Direction of Júlia Robert and Rudi Cole, HUMANHOOD has risen quickly to become a successful national and international touring dance company with a reputation for exceptional quality, creating both indoor and outdoor works since 2016.
Júlia Robert and Rudi Cole graduated from London Contemporary Dance School at The Place and Northern School of Contemporary Dance, respectively. As professional dancers they have worked with acclaimed choreographers including Akram Khan and Jasmin Vardimon. Through their research process Rudi and Julia travel the world to connect with eastern cultures and learn ancient rituals and practices that tap into altered states of awareness. Merging Júlia’s background in physics and Rudi’s passion for rhythm with their study in human potential, their work is visceral, bold and profound.
Their first full-length duet ZERO premiered in 2016 and won 1st Prize at Madrid 30’ Choreographic Competition and the Tanja Liedtke Prize at the Ballet Gesellschaft International Choreographic Competition in Hanover. In 2018, Rudi and Júlia received a commission by The Movement, to rework an extract of ZERO which was performed at Sadler’s Wells and The Lowry’s main stages as part of Dance: Sampled 2018. The same year, they were invited by Sadler’s Wells to present as part of Wild Card series, Humanhood: Universe, an immersive installation/performance bringing together the work of their former international collaborators. Their latest work Torus has been presented at Barcelona’s Grec Festival and Seoul International Dance Festival, among others.
Their outdoor duets ORBIS and SPHERA, are inspired by Earth’s permanent satellite: the Moon and its dark and bright sides. Both duets have toured and continue to tour extensively, including Greenwich & Docklands International Festival and FiraTàrrega.
They are also the founders of weflowexperience.com an online platform for people of all backgrounds to connect with the power of movement; and have also choreographed works for other postgraduates and professional companies including Singapore’s T.H.E Dance Company.
Their new full length production ∞ [Infinit] will premiere in April 2022 at Mercat de les Flors, where they are Associate Artists for the season 2021-2022.
