Biography

Dan Canham is a theatre-maker and choreographer based in Bristol, UK. Through his company, Still House, he makes visually poetic work that includes dance-theatre, film and installation. Still House works 30 Cecil Street and Ours Was the Fen Country have toured extensively throughout the UK and internationally.

As a performer he has worked with Kneehigh, DV8, Punchdrunk and Fabulous Beast among others.

30 Cecil Street began life as a short dance film, shot on the premises of the old Theatre Royal at 30 Cecil Street Limerick. Throughout its 150-year history, the building has played host to a wealth of cultural activities –political speakers, opera singers, hypnotists, actors, bingo callers have all graced its stage throughout the years but now it is closed. It is long closed in fact, having shut its doors to the public 15 years ago and been left to fade and rot from Limerick’s collective memory ever since.

At a time when cultural houses are under threat in the UK, the piece is a delicate evocation of a forgotten theatre whose loss went unnoticed but the effect of which has deeply impacted the city as a whole.
