Springback Academy

Aerowaves Springback Academy offers a unique chance for emerging dance writers to be mentored by professional critics during an international festival. It takes place during Aerowaves Spring Forward in a different city each year. Springback Academy experiments with forms of dance writing and adds an assured quality of debate to dance criticism online.

How does it work?

During Springback Academy, a group of 8-10 emerging dance writers are mentored by 3-4 professional dance critics. Participants are selected through an open call issued by Aerowaves in February through its network. Each participating writer reviews a selection of performances at Spring Forward, with short reviews published immediately online during the festival. Additionally, the group actively engages with dance enthusiasts around the world by providing instant, flash reviews on Twitter during the weekend. Each writer also contributes a longer article after the festival is over that reflects their experiences.
