Biography
Annabel Koele (1996) is a performer, physical theatre artist, dancer and creator based in Amsterdam. After graduating from Codarts University in 2017, she performed across Europe before deepening her exploration of physical performance at the Mime Opleiding in Amsterdam. Merging dance and Dutch mime, she creates work that moves between bodily sculpture and performance, using surreal and absurd imagery to unfold layered, poetic reflections on identity and presence. With a sense of musicality, timing, and spatial composition, her ongoing research delves into womanhood, the negotiation of space, and the concept of volume. Her work challenges perceptions of time, space, and the human body.
In 2024, Annabel received the Top Naeff Prize and got nominated for the Piket Art Prize 2025. Her recent works include MAGNITUDE (2024), which toured nationally with Via Rudolphi; Even When I’m Dreaming, I Hear Sounds (2025); and Ceci n’est pas une Annabel (2022).
