Simon Froehling, Switzerland / Australia
Simon Froehling is a Swiss-Australian dual citizen, living and working in Zürich, Switzerland. Since the early aughts, he has written more than a dozen full-length stage and audio plays for Swiss and German stages as well as Swiss National Radio SRF 1 & 2, along with a novel, “Lange Nächte Tag”, published by Bilger in 2010. After a long break due to illness, he has been writing and publishing again since 2018, mainly in Swiss literary magazines. Simon has won various prizes for his work, among them a Network cultural distinction, the audience award of the St. Gallen Authors’ Days, a playwriting award by Société Suisse des Auteurs SSA and a Heinz Weder recognition prize for poetry. In 2017, he was Writer in Residence at NYU’s Deutsches Haus in New York, supported by the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia. Apart from his work as an author and translator, he has been employed at Tanzhaus Zürich as a communicator and dramaturg since 2019.
