Dansens Hus

Dansens Hus

Dansens Hus is Sweden’s largest stage for guest performances of contemporary dance from Sweden and the rest of the world. Our goal is to offer to the audience a diverse selection of artistic expressions. Dynamic and innovative culture that moves and affects people – from Sweden and the world. By enabling our audience to experience dance through their senses we hope they will develop passion and understanding of the moving body.

We present high quality contemporary Swedish and international dance and performance. Contemporary companies and choreographers that have established themselves in the last decades, along with the ones who will do so in the future.

Dansens Hus was inaugurated in 1991 and is situated in Folkets Hus by Norra Bantorget in central Stockholm. The organisation was formed in 1989 as a foundation by six founders: the Royal Swedish Opera, Riksteatern, the Göteborg Opera, Östgötateatern, Danscentrum and Dansmuseet. Dansens Hus is financed primarily with public funding and receives operational means through the government Budget Bill. The other major financier is the city of Stockholm. Our work is conducted in Folkets hus in Stockholm where we present work on two stages. The Main stage has a capacity of 766 people in total, including access for eight wheelchairs and eight companion seats. The Small stage has an audience capacity of 140 seats.

Beyond the activities that take place on stage we also have two studios, which go by the name Dansklotet, dedicated to rehearsals and training. These are primarily used by the visiting artists but are sometimes also hired out to choreographers.
