Performance exists in the present – but it also has afterlives.
Documentation is one kind: recordings, transcripts, notes and logs that register aspects of performance as evidence of its existence. Documentary goes further: it compiles documents into story form. Performance is not just registered, but retold. Evidence is made meaningful.
On Record is a documentary project compiling albums from dance festivals and platforms. Each album is a tracklist of separate numbers, in text or audio form. The resulting compilation of different takes and treatments gives a creative afterlife to the live event.
