In unison and emanating pulsing vibes, spiced up with a distinct sense of humour, five dancers work their way through iconic moves from the Jazz Dance repertoire. They re-invent and re-imagine other ways of presenting this dance genre. In the friction between the needs of the present and the traditions of the past, new expressions and aesthetic ideals arise to play wittily with the current perception of what jazz dance is and can be.

Postmodern Cool is a determined effort to re-contextualize Jazz Dance aesthetics within a contemporary understanding of art, dance and choreography. It shows us that its quintessential form and style can be relevant on a contemporary stage today. How cool is that!

Inés Belli (b. 1993) is a choreographer and dancer based in Oslo (NO). She holds a BA in Jazz dance from Oslo National Academy of Arts (2015), and she has furthered her studies taking several shorter courses at Dans och Cirkushögskolan in Stockholm, University of Oslo and BI Norwegian Business School in Oslo. She is currently a postgraduate student at Goldsmiths University in London (class of 2020).

In her choreographic practice, Inés is concerned with traditions, structures and power relations that shape and limit our understanding of the work around us, and how we can use dance and choreography as a means for critical reflection. In her most recent pieces, she has been using jazz and commercial dance as a reference.

In 2019, Inés premiered her first full evening performance, Postmodern Cool, at Dansens Hus Oslo. In addition, she has created several shorter works presented at various venues in Oslo and has created commissioned works for the Oslo National Academy of Arts and the Spin-Off pre-professional program (Oslo).

Inés has participated in several residency scholarships and programmes, amongst others, at DansiT in Trondheim (NO) in 2018 and B Motion festival in Bassano Del Grappa (IT) in 2019. She has received the Arts Council Norway’s Artists Working Grant for 2019-2021.
