Biography
Structure-couple is the duet formed by Lotus Eddé Khouri and Christophe Macé, in collaboration with the musician Jean-Luc Guionnet. Since they first met in Anvers in 2014, they have created 7 pieces and forged their own choreographic method.
Structure-couple is supported by several French organisation – CCAM – Scène Nationale de Vandœuvres-lès-Nancy, L’Onde – Theater and Art Center, Théâtre de Vanves, Boom’Structur – and the French Ministry of Culture. Since 2020, they have started teaching their method in dance conservatoires and through workshops for amateur and professional dancers.
Lotus Eddé Khouri has created dance works, from solos to extended group pieces, stage and site-specific performances as well as videos. She likes to downsize dance to its most simple forms and interlace it with other practices, especially music and visual arts, as in her long-term collaborations with the composer Jean-Luc Guionnet (Volatil Lambda, 2012, What Last in What Last, 2015, Reciprocal Scores, 2016) and in Structure-couple.
She is interested in bringing dance to various situations of time and space: Slowness of the Nudes (2016-21) is a participatory cortege for public spaces, and Inside Dances (2016-22) a collection of solo performances at people’s homes, which recently gathered in an exhibition and a book. In 2019, Swiss Gamut Kollectiv invited her to compose a performative music piece, 7 lines.
Christophe Macé is primarily a sculptor. A graduate in Paris’ Beaux Arts, he assisted sculptor Côme Mosta-Heirt for four years while he started to show his own pieces in various exhibitions in the early nineties. He works with the plasticity of construction materials, playing with their specific qualities as active principles for revealing or transforming the space. By creating immersive illusory objects, he wishes to cause confusion in the viewer’s eye and question the habits of our daily perception of reality.
A few years ago, his interest shifted to dance and he participated in several projects as a dancer and sculptor: EESI Poitiers (2011), Tournures (2015), Ichi-go Ichi-e (2018), Dual (2019). Currently, he performs especially for Structure-couple and the singer Claire Bergerault. He also works as a scenographer for Structure-couple and others (Les 100 non-accordéonistes 2019, Culte(s) 2021).
