Biography
Mirjam Sögner is an Austrian choreographer and performer based in Berlin. She studied contemporary dance and dance making both at the conservatory Vienna and ArtEZ Arnhem in The Netherlands. Her graduation piece OOZE was shown at notable newcomer festivals in The Netherlands and Austria such as ITS Festival Amsterdam, Korzo Den Haag and tanz_house Salzburg.
In 2014 Mirjam received both a DanceWEB Scholarship as well as the STARTStipendium awarded by the Austrian Cultural Council, allowing her to create the solo LARA. Recently she has been researching for a long term project at Dansehallerne Copenhagen in collaboration with Márk Mészaros titled about Light and Matter. Currently, Mirjam is working on her new piece The Dancer of the Future, a duet about and around Isadora Duncan and premiering at Sophiensäle, Berlin in January 2016.
As a choreographer and teacher she has worked for Dschungel Wien, Kibbutzim College Tel Aviv, New Talents Biennale Cologne 2014, and London Fashion Weeks, and has assisted Royston Maldoom in a large-scale community dance project in Ramallah/Palestine. As a performer Mirjam has collaborated with cielaroque – Helen Weinzierl, Jasper van Luijk, Ivan Perez, Julian Barnett, Akemi Takeya and others.
