Biography
Marysia Zimpel focuses on dance research exploring the limits of physicality. She studied Dance, Choreography and Context at HZT in Berlin, and cultural studies at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, where she received her MA. In 2009 she was a recipient of DanceWeb Scholarship. Various somatic practices and the choreographic improvisations of Rosalind Crisp have had an important influence on her work and approach.
She debuted with the piece Working like a dog – a duet with poet Ezra Green (Imagetanz Festival 2011, Vienna). Further works include: What do you really miss? (Solo project 2012, Poznań and Berlin 2013), s c a t t e r (FrivMove Zamek/CK Zamek, Poznań 2014), noish~ (2014), What do you really miss?(3),2 (Art Station Foundation, Poznań 2015). She has worked as a dancer with, among others: Rosalind Crisp, Isabelle Schad, Deufert & Plischke, Alexandra Borys; and in collaboration with Zeina Hanna and Bryan Eubanks. From 2010-2012 she was a member of Viennese theatre group God’s Entertainment. In the frame of the VARP residency, she collaborated with Gaja Karolczak and Marytna Lorenc on the interdisciplinary project Phantom Sensation. Currently she dances for Berlin-based choreographer Kat Valastur. She is also developing her new project Body and Fiction. She is based in Poznań and Berlin.
